What is Shou Sugi Ban and what are its benefits? Shou Sugi Ban (yakisugi) is a traditional Japanese method of preserving wood by charring its surface with fire. It is charred until a charcoal layer forms which is then brushed to remove soot and finally sealed with a natural oil. It is a great material for cladding with a range of finishes consisting of a textured alligator skin finish to lighter, wire-brushed brown tones. It provides a range of benefits which include.
