What is a measured building survey?

Once appointed, Merkaba Studio undertake a measured building survey. This forms the foundation of the design process whilst becoming the bones on which a scheme is developed. Data which is collected during the survey is translated into a set of existing drawings which typically include.

• Floor plans

• Elevations

• Sections

• Site Plan

A thorough survey increases accuracy and has compounding effects on the entire project. Information which is typically collated include.

• Overall internal room dimensions

• Window/door openings sizes

• Ceiling heights

• Window heights

• Changes in floor level internally/externally

• Location of perceivable services (gas/electric meters, boiler, soil vent pipes, rainwater pipes, manholes etc.)

• External property/site dimensions including immediate hardscaping

• Height of elevations

• Photographs

There may be additional work that needs to be undertaken by a specialist. Requirements are subject to the nature and complexity of a project and may include.

• Tree surveyor – required if there is a tree preservation order (TPO’s)

• Topographical surveyor

• Drainage surveyor - CCTV drainage survey if building over/close to public sewer
